Working with a solid team at Method Studios in NY, I helped direct and create the lighting, textures, and mood of this campaign for Estée Lauder's Princess Collection. The collection consisted of sets of matching Powder and Perfume Compacts based on the princesses and related objects from 8 Disney classics. We created wisps of particle trails in Houdini, reminiscent of the the sparks Mickey throws in Fantasia with a hint of Tinker Bell sparkles to carry the viewer through each scene. It was an intersting challenge to accurately capture the beauty of each piece's many gems as well as trying to match the fine finishes of the real jewlery in CG.
The pieces came to us as highly detailed CAD models. We used a variety of tools to reduce poly counts and utilized UDIMs in Octane to get large tiled texture sets and capture every fine detail in the jewelry. Objects could get very close to camera and the detail would still hold up.
A couple of WIP side by sides showing our Renders next to the real product. We wanted to pay tribute to the real pieces but also make sure to plus up the textures where we could taking advantage of CG to the fullest.
